Note on this role. The Forward Deployed Engineer works inside the client's environment rather than at arm's length. This is the most client facing engineering role at Whizzbridge. Substantial overlap with US business hours is mandatory, and periodic international travel may be required. Candidates who prefer structured, specification driven work inside a product team should consider our other engineering roles instead.

Job Description

  1. Embed directly with a client team to scope, build and deploy production AI software inside that client's own environment, against their real systems, real data and real workflows.
  2. Own the engagement from pilot to production, including the parts that are not strictly engineering.
  3. Run discovery directly with client stakeholders, from end users to executive sponsors, and convert unclear requirements into a working specification.
  4. Build custom integrations against client systems, which are frequently undocumented, legacy or both.
  5. Navigate the client's security model, access controls, data residency requirements and compliance constraints, and design within them rather than around them.
  6. Diagnose why a successful pilot is failing to reach production, and fix the cause, whether it is technical, data related or organisational.
  7. Build and ship production code, not prototypes. Deployments must survive real traffic and real edge cases.
  8. Establish monitoring, evaluation and handover so the client can operate the system after the engagement.
  9. Train and enable client teams on the systems you deploy, and drive actual adoption rather than delivery on paper.
  10. Act as the technical face of Whizzbridge inside the account, and identify expansion opportunities as they surface.
  11. Report progress, risk and blockers to both client leadership and internal Whizzbridge leadership.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  2. Four or more years of professional software engineering experience, including at least one year in a client facing, consulting or solutions engineering capacity.
  3. Strong software engineering fundamentals. This is a deeply technical role, not an advisory one.
  4. Strong Python, and working proficiency in at least one additional language relevant to client integration work.
  5. Applied AI experience, including LLM APIs, RAG or agent systems, and the judgement to know which is appropriate for a given problem.
  6. Systems integration experience, including REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks, authentication flows and data migration.
  7. Cloud deployment experience on AWS, GCP or Azure.
  8. Data engineering literacy, including SQL and the ability to assess whether a client's data is fit for the use case before committing to it.
  9. Excellent spoken and written English, and the presence to hold a room with senior client stakeholders.
  10. Demonstrated ability to create momentum under ambiguity, with incomplete information and shifting requirements.
  11. Availability to work substantial overlap with US business hours, and willingness to travel internationally when required.

Qualifications

  1. Prior experience at a consultancy, systems integrator, professional services organisation or solutions engineering team.
  2. Experience deploying AI or data platform software into enterprise environments.
  3. Exposure to regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, insurance or the public sector, where compliance requirements run alongside technical integration.
  4. Experience with enterprise identity and access management, including SSO, SAML and OAuth.
  5. Experience running a technical discovery workshop or an executive readout.
  6. Familiarity with Model Context Protocol and enterprise tool integration patterns.
  7. Prior experience as the first or only engineer on an account.
